The Chairperson is the principal officer of a GAA Club. As well as chairing Club Executive Committee and other Club meetings, the Chairperson has prime responsibility for ensuring that the Club is a well organized, well managed and an active unit.
The Vice-Chairperson would act as second in command to the Chairperson and they may be regarded as a training post of a future Chairperson. The Vice-Chairperson should be given specific duties i.e. Chair of any important sub-committee like any other Club Officer along with the obvious one of taking the place of an absent Chairperson. The role of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will sync together and it is crucial that they work as a team with the rest of the Club Executive Committee.
The Secretary is the chief administrator in the Club. The duties of the role are many and varied and call for a high degree of dedication. The Secretary has more to do with the practical running of the Club than any other officer. He/she should be a good organiser, be methodical and above all, be reliable. The duties dovetail with those of the Chairperson and it is essential that both officers work as a team of which the Secretary will very often be the more active person.
The overall role of the Treasurer is to ensure that all financial matters within the Club are managed correctly and efficiently. He / she must ensure that proper books of accounts along with proper controls and procedures are in place and adhered to. He / she should ultimately be responsible for all financial matters relating to the Club.
The role of the Club PRO is to present a positive image of the Association and our games throughout the GAA community and across the county. He / she should establish good relations with all local media outlets and where appropriate national media. They should provide regular updates on fixtures, results and information on all other Club activity across a variety of traditional and digital channels.
The primary purpose of the position is to create a welcoming Club – one that fosters a Club environment that will enhance the players and coaches experience. The Club Coaching Officer shall be a member of the Club Executive appointed by the Club Chairperson at the Club AGM.
The Club Registrar is responsible for ensuring that the Club is up to date in the registration of players and members. A Club is required to complete two registrations each year, the registration of Full and Youth Members and the registration of Players in accordance with rule 2.2 and 2.3 of the Official Guide.
The role of the Club Irish Language and Cultural Officer is to provide advice to the Club’s officers in supporting the National Language and Culture as well as actively promoting the Irish language within the Club
